SPRING PROMISE PYGMIES
The goats who made it special

Before you view this page, I'd like to say ...
We HAVE moved on.
At first we didn't think we would be able to.
The sense of loss was too great. The hurt too deep.
But time DOES heal, both the land and the soul.
We will never forget our original herd but being without Pygmies altogether finally became unthinkable. With the help of good friends, we ARE beginning again.

>
DESERT SUNS ALYSSA, age three

Affectionately dubbed "basketball with legs" during her many pregnancies.

We lost ALYSSA at age seven

One of the twins she was carrying died inutero;
easy kidder and good mom that she always was,
Alyssa managed to deliver the surviving kid on her own, giving her a total of 10 kids and earning her NPGA *+* the night she died.
We lost her in an unsuccessful C-section to retreive the dead fetus.
Her great conformation and ease of kidding hopefully live on in her offspring.

Our "Herd Queen" for many years

DESERT SUNS MAKALYA+, age eight (retired)
"Kayla" last kidded 4-7-02 with her 3rd set of triplets,
giving her 11 kids total, and earning her coveted NPGA high producer "Plus".

Sire: PGCH Bizzy Acres Beau Hunk
(PGCH Bizzy Acres Beau
x Bizzy Acres Carly)

Dam: Corrales Kid's Natalie Rose
(Orange Blossom Mr. Carroll x Magic Time's Abracadabra)

Spring Promise Kayla's Galaxy ("Lexie")
I had high hopes for this "silver" beauty.
Sire: J-Lynns Once In A Blue Moon
Dam: Desert Suns Makayla

Lexie's only daughter, Spring Promise Willow
and her twin (wether) SP Chase.

Spring Promise Lucy In The Sky
What an udder!
(also the doe far right in my "border", with her silver babies)
A real character - and my neighbor's dearest love.
Sire: J-Lynns Once In A Blue Moon
Dam: Desert Suns Makayla

*

Spring Promise Jackie Purcell
A yearling who never got a chance to live up to her potential.

*

Spring Promise April Showers ... my favorite.
We lost her before we saw her first babies

*

Iron Creek Debra at age nine
Sweet, unassuming Debra. She gave us
agouti twins every year like clockwork.
Sire: Iron Creek Dakota
Dam: Desert Suns Savannah

Spring Promise Moonshadoe

What an expressive face!

The little "JOYS" which have graced our pastures over the years!

Deb back in the early '90s with a set of unregistered twins. She had as many unregistered as registered back then, but ALL were oooh so perfect in her eyes. And so it began . . .

Spring Promise 'Tis Nobler was the very first kid Jerry delivered by himself. It was a head first presentation and a very big kid - I was in the house on the phone with the vet when I heard Jer yell on the monitor, "I got it! I got it! Now what do I do?!"
He had gloved up, slid his fingers along the neck and actually snagged a
front leg. When he pulled the leg forward.
the kid popped right out!
What a thrill for a first time "dad".
Jer came up with the name for "the wether 'tis nobler".
So appropriate!

and at six weeks.

We had quite an eventful April in 2000. EIGHT kids born in less than 30 hours! We normally tried to space our kiddings out a little better. Deb didn't get much sleep during this period, but it sure made for happy memories . ;-)

Jackie, Black Ice and Chugach at one day old.
DS Makayla's most colorful "litter" was born in the wee hours of April 8th..

Spring Promise Black Ice,
triplet sibling to Chugach and Jackie.
"Ice" wasn't very good at standing still for pictures.

*

Spring Promise Fair Weather (now known as "Gretyl" at her new home)
"Gretyl" and her wethered twin, SP Cut To Weather ("Cutter"), were born around noon on April 8th, following Makayla's triplet's middle of the night arrival, courtesy of Iron Creek Debra.

At this point, Desert Suns ALyssa decided she wasn't getting enough attention, so she went into labor in the middle of the following night. She held off long enough for HER triplets to be born April 9th, at 2:00 AM. Three doelings!!

Spring Promise Chance Of Rain ("Chance"), a pretty, solid black doeling, went along with "Gretyl" to Robyn McBride.

Spring Promise Zephyr moved to Valdez, AK at 8 weeks. I kept the third triplet, SP April Showers. What a little sweetie she was.

*
Spring Promise Dan Fagan was a month younger than the rest of the group but
held his own almost from day one.
What a little character! As soon as he was old enough,
this little charmer joined "Gretyl" and "Chance"
at the home of Robyn McBride in Wasilla, AK. YES, as a wether! :)

Desert Suns Makalya & twins, born April, 2002
Sadly, a third kid (another pretty buckling) lived less than a week.

This special page
will be under construction for quite a while,
as I gather together my favorite pictures
of all the wonderful friends who were part of my life
over a span of more than fifteen years . . . longer if you count the pet wethers I kept before beginning to breed. There were so many beautiful animals who contributed so much to my life. Does who made me laugh, some who made me cry . . .bucks I would gladly have given away (in spite of their awesome offspring!) and others I feared the loss of would spell my own end. Babies who never had the chance to grow up.We miss you all, Jer and I. We will NEVER forget you.
